Russia
Since the collapse of the old Soviet Union in 1991, tourism has taken off in Russia. The two most visited cities are Moscow and St.Petersberg.The favorite attractions are the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, Peter and Paul Cathedral, the State Hermitage Museum.
No longer are visitors over regulated in Russia, the tourism there is now booming. Adventure travel from many agencies is now available such as mountaineering, trekking, canoeing and potholing.

With 10 more countries now added since May 1st to the European Union, travel is expected to boom. Airlines particularly are going to get most of the boost in tourist numbers.
Soon easyJet will start a service from the UK to Budapest and Lufthansa will fly between Bratislava and Munich.
There is no mistaking the arousal of formerly sleepy countries wanting to attract more of the tourist numbers such as:- Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Latvia, Lithuania as well as Cyprus and Malta.
Prague, Warsaw and Budapest will become hubs for travel throughout Eastern Europe.
Access
It used to be very difficult to access eastern European countries with very strict visa controls, but not any longer, these countries now want to benefit from air travel and tourism so visa's are easily arranged.
Many countries now no longer need a visa at all for short stays.
Cost Factor
It used to be very expensive to travel by air to many eastern European countries, but many of the low cost carriers have moved into the market driving the cost down. For instance CZECH AIR flies from New York to Prague for less than USA domestic flights cost.
Where to stay
Many of the international hotels groups have moved into eastern Europe such as :- Sofitel, Raddison and Intercontinental. Many of these luxury hotels are far cheaper in eastern Europe than elsewhere in the world. These hotels have jacuzzi, sauna, swimming pools, all included for less than 100 euro.
